ParkMagic secures national mobile parking payment deal with CIE
(1st November 2007) ParkMagic, the innovative Irish mobile payment and wireless technology company headquartered in Limerick, is to operate its mobile parking payment system in five CIE train station car parks across the country from mid November 2007.
The ParkMagic pay by phone service will be deployed as an alternative payment mechanism for customers using the current pay & display arrangements which will remain in the car parks. The coin based parking market in the train station car parks is currently worth approximately €5 million and ParkMagic is aiming at 20% of this market.
The first station to introduce the new payment system will be Kent Station in Cork on the 12th of November. The ParkMagic system will be widely available in stations nationwide following this, beginning with rollout to Connolly and Heuston stations in Dublin and Leixlip and Killarney stations over the coming months. All of these car parks are operated by car park operator Euro Car Parks.
Mr. Dave Ward, Business Development Manager at ParkMagic has worked closely with CIE over the past few months to secure this deal. Said Mr. Ward, “This deal represents the most significant deployment of phone-based parking services in Ireland and follows on from our agreement to operate in the QuickPark Car Park at Dublin Airport and the introduction of our number plate recognition technology at Steamboat Quay Car Park in Limerick. We are delighted to be working with CIE and their operators Euro Car Parks who are very innovative in introducing the ParkMagic payment system in order to provide an enhanced customer experience.”
According to Mr. Dick Fearn, Chief Executve, Iarnrod Eireann, “CIÉ is committed to making public transport more attractive to its customers. To achieve this objective, we plan to continue to invest in improving the quality of our products and services in response to customer demand. Through our car park operator Euro Car Parks, we are delighted to be able to offer our customers the choice of paying for their parking by phone using ParkMagic’s innovative technology which will be widely available in our stations nationwide in the coming months.”
Added Mr. Dave Cullen, Managing Director of Euro Car Parks, “Euro Car Parks is very excited about this new partnership with ParkMagic. It is an example of CIE’s commitment to enhancing its customer service using the most modern technology available. We believe that this new cashless parking facility will be of terrific benefit to existing and future rail users and will act as an incentive to customers to park and rail.”
Continued Ward, “ParkMagic is generating a lot of interest with public and private car park operators throughout Ireland and we are currently in talks with a number of local authorities about introducing ParkMagic. Internationally, we are also making significant progress. We launched in the City of Chicago earlier this year and the take-up of the service has been excellent so far. We are also seeing significant interest in ParkMagic in the UK and other European markets.”
ParkMagic is the world’s first in-car parking permit display system controlled using a mobile phone. The motorist buys a display unit for their car which they place on the dashboard or windscreen. When the driver pulls into a parking spot they dial one number from their mobile phone and within seconds the display unit in the car indicates that parking has been paid. It removes the inconvenience and time taken to use traditional parking systems and the constant need to fumble for coins when using pay & display machines. New ParkMagic customers will be able to purchase the in-car parking display units in all five CIE stations.
ParkMagic was founded in Limerick in 2005 by Philip Hayes and Paul Fitzgerald. The company opened its US office in 2006 and a UK office earlier this year. ParkMagic offers a range of integrated payment services and parking system solutions for public and private parking operators. Solutions cover both on street and off street operations and seamlessly interoperate with each other, serving customers throughout Ireland.
